ABOUT US

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

This Credit Union, founded by its members in 1958, exists to promote thrift and to provide convenient, competitive financial services through dedicated volunteers and a professional staff, while maintaining financial stability, adherence to legal compliance and fostering loyalty among its members.

BEACON MUTUAL Federal Credit Union is a non-profit cooperative financial institution owned by its members, and run by volunteer board members.  The credit union exists solely for the purpose of meeting the financial needs of our member-owners.  Rather than paying profits to stockholders, the credit union returns earnings to members in the form of higher savings rates, lower loan rates, low or no fee convenience services, and outstanding personal service.

Originally chartered by the National Credit Union Administration as the Lima Sohio Employees Federal Credit Union in May, 1958, the field of membership at the time was open to employees of the Standard Oil Company who worked in Lima, Ohio as well as employees of the Sales Division of the Lima District, Standard Oil Company working in surrounding counties.   As the ownership of the Lima Refinery changed throughout the years, the credit union maintained the relationship with those employees and expanded the membership to include other select employee groups.   On January 3, 2000 the name of the credit union was officially changed to BEACON MUTUAL Federal Credit Union.  The Beacon in our name and the flame logo reflects our commitment and gratitude to our original sponsorship as well as a desire to serve an entire community.

BEACON MUTUAL Federal Credit Union has served the employees and families of Cargill Corporation, Fort Amanda Specialties, Husky Energy, Inc., INEOS USA LLC, and International Specialty Products, Inc. (ISP) for many years.  The employees and families of The Tom Ahl Family of Automobile Dealerships were added in 2007.

In December of 2009, the National Credit Union Administration approved the Credit Union’s application for a Community Charter which allowed us to extend membership to those who live, work, worship or attend school in Allen and Auglaize Counties.  Membership eligibility is also extended to the spouses, children and step-children, parents, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren and in-laws of those members.

Although we are much larger than the small credit union that began in 1958, we are still small enough to know you by name and eager to serve you.  As we move forward, we will maintain the same vision that has kept BEACON MUTUAL Federal Credit Union present and successful through all the years.  That vision is to provide members the services they expect and deserve.  As changes in services are needed, we will change.  As new products are developed in the financial services industry, we will offer them.  As new technologies become available, we will implement them.  We know you will experience the satisfaction associated with doing business with a financial institution owned by you, directed by you and that treasures your business.
